Otto Tyler is a character in Bully, and is a member of the Townies. He was voiced by Ian Stynes.

Character description

Otto is small framed with brown eyes, ears that stick out, and he has short brown hair. He wears an orange tank top with a skull on the front, and two black bands on his left arm, one at the wrist, one at the bicep. He also wears black pants with a pocket chain and black boots. In the winter time he wears a navy blue padded jacket with orange trim, and a black wool cap with an orange stripe with the same black pants with the pocket chain and black boots that he normally wears. He bears a mild resemblance to the beta character Sid.

Characteristics

Otto has a very negative personality. He doesn't seem to actually like anything - the closest he comes to saying anything nice about anything is bragging that he stole some cigarettes, and saying he wants to be a circus freak. He denigrates everything from people to clothing to carnival rides as 'garbage.' However, he especially hates Bullworth Academy. It isn't made clear whether he dropped out or was expelled, but it's faintly implied that his parents don't know that he's no longer attending, and that he's homeless to avoid letting them find out.

When Otto talks he almost never pronounces the final 'g' on words ending in it. He has a mildly gravelly voice, and when he gets angry he snarls in an unusual way, both through his nose and his throat at the same time. He has no particular accent.

It is heavily implied⁸ that Otto's negative personality is because of a Napoleon complex. He denigrates others as 'schoolboy' and 'schoolkid,' but also uses other diminutive insults like 'brat' and 'worm.' He regularly uses 'you suck' and variations of it as insults as well. He sometimes claims to be 'hard,' uses hard as a compliment, and in one rare effort to be nice compliments someone's bench press. One particular line of his dialogue implies heavily that he knows he's small and weak and that he's just posturing to make up for it.^[1]

Otto also has a dirty mouth. He has more lines with profanities in them than any other character in the game. He takes the lord's name in vain, accuses people he's trying to intimidate of being about to piss their pants, and a lot of his threats while bullying and fighting are outright death threats.

Role in game

Otto assigns Jimmy four errands, which are throwing water balloons, smashing a car, tagging Greaser insults, and egging the Greasers.

He appears in Balls of Snow as one of the Townie targets that can be hit with snowballs. He also appears as an asylum inmate in Galloway Away, where he tells Jimmy not to "anger the Watcher", as well as in an errand, in which Jimmy has to fetch him and Clint back to the asylum. This errand becomes available after Finding Johnny Vincent, another mission involving the asylum in which Otto can be found here as an inmate.

Otto also makes multiple appearances in Chapter 5 missions. In Townie Challenge, he challenges Jimmy to a fight. In Preppies Vandalized, he first appears guarding the ground floor of the Spencer Shipping Warehouse, afterwards appearing at the docks with the other Townies as the trophies of the Preppies are set on fire. In Busting In, Part II, he is one of many Townies guarding Chem-O Lot. In Complete Mayhem, he is one of the Townies that goes along with Jimmy to the school.

Trivia

• Otto resembles Davey, a character from the movie Romper Stomper, who was played by the late Daniel Pollock. Both are skinheads, very aggresive, use foul language, love fighting, and have protruding ears. Moreover, Otto's facial structure resembles that of the actor. Rockstar probably designed Otto as a tribute to the actor who passed away very young in 1992.
• In his appearances as a Happy Volts Asylum patient, he wears a mask similar to Hannibal Lecter's muzzle, albeit colored teal instead of brown.
  • This mask was also supposed to be a wearable accessory for Jimmy. It might have been unlocked after beating the Happy Volts Asylum missions, or more likely, Gregory's Chapter 5 errand. It was never implemented into the final game.^[2]
